Controlled Biodegradation Demonstration

GreenVeil’s proprietary Ultra-Biodegradable™ composite polymer fully degrades in a natural water–soil environment within two hours. The material is engineered with wollastonite, a calcium–silicate mineral that enriches the soil by releasing beneficial calcium and silicon ions as it breaks down. The degradation rate can be precisely controlled, from a few hours to several months , depending on the intended application. This tunable behavior allows the material to remain strong during use and then return safely to nature, improving soil health instead of polluting it.

Antimicrobial Coating on Biodegradable Films

GreenVeil applies natural antimicrobial agents to biodegradable food packaging materials such as PLA, PBAT, starch-based films, and compostable bags to inhibit microbial growth and extend food shelf life. The functionalized materials remain fully compostable and degrade naturally after disposal, helping reduce food waste and supporting a more sustainable packaging cycle.

FAQ

What makes GreenVeil products different from regularbiodegradable packaging?

GreenVeil’s UltraBiodegradable™ materials fully dissolve in soil and water — with no need for any secondary actions such as industrial composting. Unlike many “biodegradable” plastics that leave behind microplastics, our products degrade naturally and enrich the soil after use. Other biodegradable options often take a long time to break down and lack the durability needed for different applications. GreenVeil solves both issues by combining strength during use with rapid, complete biodegradation after disposal.

Why do you call your materials UltraBiodegradable™?

We use the term UltraBiodegradable™ because our materials:
- Naturally degrade in soil and water, without secondary actions.
- Break down quickly, with controlled degradation times ranging from hours to months.
- Enrich the soil after degradation, acting as a natural fertilizer.

What types of products do you offer?

We provide two categories of solutions made from similar biopolymer-based materials:
- Food Packaging: wrap film, bin liners, fresh bags, and zip bags, all with food-safe and antimicrobial properties.
- Agricultural Solutions: mulch film, tree covers, fruit trays, and nursery pots (these do not include antimicrobial features).

Are your products food-safe?

Yes. All of our food packaging materials have passed rigorous safety testing and are certified by global standards, including FDA approval and compostability certifications from TÜV, DIN, and BPI.

Can I order small quantities or only in bulk?

You can order both! Small retail orders can be placed directly through our online store. For bulk orders, we offer discounted pricing — please contact us directly for a custom quote.

How does shipping work?

We deliver directly to your address. Shipping is free for orders above $20. For smaller orders, standard shipping rates apply.

Is GreenVeil open to collaborations?

Yes! We welcome collaborations with food producers, retailers, farmers, and research groups. You can also find more information on our collaborations and partnerships in the Partners/Investors tab on the main menu.

Are your materials locally sourced?

Yes. We are proud to use Ontario-sourced natural materials, reducing transportation emissions while supporting the local economy.

Who develops your innovations?

Our products are developed by a multidisciplinary scientific team of PhDs in biology, advanced materials, chemistry, and physics. This ensures our solutions are backed by world-class expertise in microbiology, food safety, materials science, and photonics.

Where is your lab and office located?

GreenVeil’s R&D office is located at the Advanced Research Complex (ARC), Room 522, University of Ottawa, 25 Templeton Street, Ottawa, ON.
